I have taken a little break from DA this year due to many reasons. I was ill for 6 months with Lyme's disease and my work was very stressful too. I lost my job at the end of September due to my illness and now I have decided to go fully professional with my photography.

I have also decided to start my own networking sites for local artists - if you are interested in helping out, then please get in touch!

Anyway, that is not to say that I have not been doing any photography and I have had quite a few shoots which you can find on my website (along with my blog - www.colinvickers.com). I will try to get some of the work uploaded to DA soon

2012 has been a bit of a soul-searching year for me. I changed jobs in April, my wonderful fiancee moved in with me in August, I was ill and spent most of November in bed, and I have been thinking a lot lately about how to proceed with my photography.

I am struggling with the choice between going 'mainstream' with my photography in order to take it in a more commercial direction or pursuing a more artistic direction. I haven't decided yet but in 2013, I intend to do more promotion of my art - pursuing galleries and exhibitions, and submitting to competitions, magazines, etc. I think I will see how that goes before making a decision on this

I have also had quite a few pole dancing parties - you can see photos at art.colinvickers.com/pole - these were a lot of fun, served as a way to meet new models, and also helped my fiancee find some new friends in Vienna (she is from Munich)

The last month has been really crazy with so many photoshoots and some big changes in my life.
My new job seems to be going very well and my girlfriend moves in today - I am really looking forward to living with her but a little unsure how it will affect my shooting. She is very supportive of my photography but photoshoots can go on late and it could be a problem.

I have been so busy with shoots lately, I have not had time to upload many pieces to DA. However, you can find most photos on my website so I suggest you browse it from time to time.

It has been an expensive week, I switched from Canon to Nikon and finally got my hands on a D800 (it's been sold out in Europe for the last month). I got it mainly for the 36 megapixels, which will allow me to display my photos in large gallery sizes (my old camera was 18MP)

The switch was actually easier than I thought, my workflow remains completely unchanged (except it takes a little longer to save files).

With the switch to Nikon, I had to get new lenses and I now have an amazing 85mm 1.4 and 24mm 1.4 I chose these two because between them, they give me all I will ever need for my work.

On another note, I'm seriously considering whether to give up DA - it seems most people are here just for porn. It's getting very annoying that I spend a lot of time and effort on my photography and the most popular photos here are simple full frontal snapshots. I feel that I am just wasting my time here.

If I do keep my account, maybe I will change my name. I heard yesterday that I am quite famous in the photography scene in Vienna and they all call me Mr Sepia so I was thinking of changing my username to 'Dr Sepia' - let me know what you think.

Anyway, hearing that was a nice boost to my self esteem - sometimes I really feel I am just wasting my time with my photography - I think I make some beautiful photos but there is really so little interest it can get a little depressing sometimes

So, It's been a busy few months. My new job is going well, my father is much better (although he is terminal and probably has maximum 6 months), and have a load of photoshoots going on right now.
